The guy scans out the restaurant to find a proper sitting place. This seems a very critical process…maybe, because the guy wants to make sure that his gal does not become the center of attraction (which, much to his distaste she already is). Also, the guy is swift 'n smooth – this perhaps, because of the fact that you can't let your gal realise about your alarming levels of insecurity ;-)
So this guy does all the scanning but it does not help much, because all the 'vantage' places are already occupied. The manager escorts the couple to a table which is right in the centre of all the action; fortunately/unfortunately right next to ours with the drama unfolding right in front of my eyes :-D
They looked as out-of-place as Mallika Sherawat would’ve in skimpily clad clothes in Jodhaa Akbar. All the attention is focused on them. All have been behaving like Willie Coyote when it notices the Road Runner, ever since the gal walked in!
Amongst all this, the girl decides that it's time; time for the all-famous hand holding ceremony. Here now, the girl places her hand on the table. Now when you were small and your mom asked to bring forward your hands to show what you were hiding in your hands, you could've refused, but not here. Denial is not an option, unless of course you want to leave the restaurant all alone. So the guy gathers all the courage and holds his gal's hand, all the while pretending that he is totally cool with it; but on the inside, I bet, he was as uncomfortable as Bappi Lahiri without a piece of jewellery on himself!
Then it's time to place the order. The guy places his order without any ado; though there's no denying the likelihood of him already having decided what he wants to eat even before he entered the restaurant…most probably because of the fact that the poor dude must've been forced to skip his "hanging-outs" to save up for this lovely dinner date! On the other hand (literally and figuratively), the lady takes all the time in the world reading out all the names in the most stylish of accents, giggling over some and making confused looks over some, all this with the in-between here-and-there glances with just a sole aim, I thought - to make sure she has attracted all the (male) eye-balls toward her. After reading out the entire menu from cover to back page several times, the poor gal can't decide what she wants to eat, so she probably decides that she will eat off her man's plate! Aai ga :-O
Surprise surprise…bulls-eye on that! That was what she eventually did.
Finally the food arrives and then comes an Ekta Kapoor-moment -
Ladki apna pyaar dikhate huye khane ka nivala unki taraf uthati hain…
Everybody around seems to be having this Garfield expression...
…but her guy wishes that dinosaurs were not extinct and one of them would come and gobble him up to save him the embarrassment! :-D
Lucky/unlucky for us, we'd done with our sumptuous dinner by that time - all around them with a glee of seeing another one paying for it (again literally and figuratively) with me a part of them, as the seed of another blog post had already got sowed in…
