Lahanpaniche Kahi Kshan... during, what I believe were, the Chilledhood days!
- 'Suiting' up in nice multicoloured fancy clothes on our 'happy-birthday', distributing toffees; and waiting eagerly for the presents.
- Playing book-cricket in between (and during) classes by strategically selecting your own XI; as if it were your 'savings' at stake.
- Hating and always avoiding playing the ridiculous game called Truth-or-Dare; but pouncing on the chance to playing dumb-charades, Four-Square/Bollywood (whatever it is called - guessing the movie, actor, actress, song) or Hangman.
- Reading lots of Tintin, Asterix and Tinkle comics; mouthing "Blue Blistering Barnacles", "Ten Thousand Thundering Typhoons" as if those were phrases from the Bible! Referring to Shikari Shambu, Suppandi, Tantri the Mantri as if they were your next-door neighbours!
- Linking up people in class (nobody misses this, right?) and then coining a new name (from the combination of the two names) for teasing the 'couple'.
- Preparing a bucketful of water balloons on the morning of Ranga Panchami and later 'firing' them on buddies; summoning every possible ounce of force available for the same.
- Playing ek-tappa-out underarm Cricket; asking one to arch his back and then to guess the number made by the fingers on his back, to decide the order in which all bat.
- Trying to maintain a few Pen-pals through some kids' magazine; show-offing in front of your 'local' friends about the new 'foreign' friend.
- Insisting our dads to increase the RAM of the computer from 8 MB to 16 MB to 32 MB; so that playing Road Rash, Doom or Commando would be possible without the computer giving way.
- Planning for days together, just to have a quick bite at Pastry Corner after school; getting into a sweet-talk with Aai for the money.
- Gobbling down the tiffin in a jiffy; so that the rest of the Recess could be used for playing Dagad-ka-Maati, Roomal-Paani or Lapa-Chapi.
- Borrowing Chip/Digit magazine-free CDs to get demo versions of games and free softwares.
- Watching Swat Cats, Popeye, Shaktimaan day in and day out; daydreaming about their 'powers'.
- Pleading your parents to allow you to cycle to school; you being too 'old' for the rickshaw now!
- Being so happy all the time; most importantly!

ReplyDeleteMost of the memories you have mentioned, but here a few of my own:
1. Taking off shoes and socks in the class before the computer periods - Scrambling through the mad rush that ensued to be the first one to get to the computer lab as soon as the teacher wrapped up the previous class.
2. Forming 'height wise' lines for any school gathering - very vivid memory because I was always the first or the second one in line for ten years straight!
3. Those fun annual gathering times when the benches used to be put on top of each other all round the classes to make space for 'gathering practice' in the centre!
4. Feeling dreadful when you got a 'remark' in your calender.
5. Jumping for joy when I got my copy of 'Tinkle' in the mail every month - I was a subscriber.
6. Watching Scooby Doo, Space Ghost, Flitstones, Fantastic Four, Swat Cats, Wally Gator, Addams Family and the Laff-a-Lympics on Cartoon Network. Flipping channels as soon as 'Top Cat' came on because I found it super boring! What happened to those classic cartoons?? Why are kids today watching trash like Pokemon, Shin Chan and that ridiculously titled 'Hagemaru'????
7. Curling up in bed with Famous Five, Secret Seven, the Wishing Chair adventures and all those awesome Blyton books!
8. Playing chor-police in the colony. Hiding in random buildings even though buildings were supposed to be out of bounds as hiding places for the 'chors' :P
9. Planning for days together and convincing parents to spend a day at friends' places. The most exciting part? Going there directly from school. Lol! :)
10. Playing those old 'video games' on TV. :) I've grown up on those. Also, classics like Prince of Persia, Doom, Mortal Kombat, Lion King, The Incredible Machine, Blackthorne and tons more.
I guess I can go on and on and on, there's so many things! :)

Amazing work once again Rohan. You really managed to take me to those days! And Pranav also has some of the best memories penned down here! Those were really the days to be in!

3.the prize distribution ceremonies, elocution competition,science exhibiitins...
4.monitors writting down names of batchmates who were talking when the teacher was away. and those naughty students screaming 'me boardat aalo'. and the 'hatash' monitor(someone like me :( )
